From 14 to 23 March 2025, the Opera Forward Festival (OFF) returns with a bang! This is your chance to explore new and experimental opera. Especially for OFF, innovative opera projects of all shapes and sizes come to life. Alongside three brand-new productions in the main auditorium, the entire theatre transforms into a hub of student labs, concerts, performances, and other events. Meet the trailblazing opera creators of today and tomorrow, and immerse yourself in OFF’s dynamic and diverse program.
This ninth edition of the festival reflects on the past while looking ahead: how did we get here, and where do we go next? In an era of polarization, crisis, and conflict, we search for a way forward. The festival's central question asks: What aim, what future, what peace? What goals, futures, and peace are we striving for?

Ever since the first Opera Forward Festival, the vibrant, experimental student projects have been an integral part of the programme. Students take a fresh, open-minded look at opera in various Labs that offer scope for distinctive new creations.
Context programme: in-depth discussions and thought-provoking performances
The Opera Forward Festival is accompanied by a stimulating theatre-wide context programme that shows a fresh approach being taken to all aspects of opera as an art form. A key aim is nurturing a dialogue between opera and other art forms, to make new connections and highlight contrasts.
