This year it is 40 years ago that former Dutch National Ballet principal dancers Alexandra Radius and Han Ebbelaar established Dansersfonds’79. In honour of this special anniversary, Dutch National Ballet is reviving the Dutch Ballet Gala to celebrate and benefit the fund.
The 40th anniversary of Danserfonds’79 will be celebrated with an extra festive gala production in November 2019, with a guest list featuring the leading lights of Dutch dance. As per tradition, all the country's major dance companies are contributing a performance to this charity event, including Dutch National Ballet and its Junior Company, Introdans, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Conny Janssen Danst and the Dutch National Ballet Academy.
In honour of the fund’s 40th anniversary, the programme will include a film of Alexandra Radius and Han Ebbelaar in Voorbij Gegaan (‘Past’), a pas de deux created for the famous ballet couple by Rudi van Dantzig to celebrate their 20-year dance anniversary in 1979. It was also on this occasion that Radius and Ebbelaar launched their fund, the purpose of which was and is to promote talented young dancers and support those who due to age or injury are compelled to end their careers. Forty years after its inception, they continue to fulfil this mission with the same drive and passion.
