Onegin

PASSIONATE BALLET DRAMA

Choreographer John Cranko created with Onegin
one of the greatest love dramas in ballet history.
He based his ballet on Pushkin's
masterpiece of the same name: a romance
that inspired many composers, choreographers and
theatre and film makers. Cranko's
interpretation is worldwide favorite. In the mainly
academic ballet, he has incorporated
also folk dance, modern
dance, ballroom and acrobatics.

Early love, broken hearts, a perfect
choreography and the beautiful music of
Tchaikovsky, make Onegin at least as
compelling as Swan Lake. For dancers,
the main roles in Onegin are some
of the most coveted in the classical repertoire.

OEDIPUS REX / FROM ‘ANTIGONE’

QUINTESSENTIAL TRAGIC HERO

A unique artistic collaboration: ballet and
opera join forces for Stravinsky's
Oedipus Rex! Multitalented British choreographer
and director Wayne McGregor, connects classic
tragedy with contemporary ballet and music from
the 20th and 21st centuries. Stravinsky's music
immediately goes to the heart of the story and
continues to resonate through the body with
its rhythmic power.

With From 'Antigone composer Samy Moussa
wrote an incisive answer to Stravinsky's Oedipus.
His composition, with an important role for the
women's choir, departs from Antigone, daughter
of Oedipus. Thus, with a new
generation, a new story.

of the Brothers Grimm, but also by the
richness of Prokofievs ballet music.

   THE DUTCH SCHOOL

tHE DUTCH SCHOOL

WORLD-CLASS REPERTOIRE FROM THE NETHERLANDS

The Dutch School offers a wonderful sampler
of the best that Dutch dance has achieved:
dance that puts simplicity, clarity, musicality
and the expressive qualities of the individual
dancer at the forefront. You will meet a number
of choreographers which make a significant contribution
to Dutch National Ballet.
On Beethoven's string quartet 'Grosse Fuge'
master choreographer Hans van Manen
created a sublime ballet that is one of his most
frequently performed works worldwide.
Three renowned young choreographers,
Wubkje Kuindersma, Remi Wörtmeyer and
Ernst Meisner, create a new work together,
Prometheus: a translation of Beethovens
only ballet 'Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus',
about the mythical figure who stole fire from the gods.
From associate artist David Dawson - who started
25 years ago as a dancer with the company - we
present the Dutch premiere of The Four Seasons.
Max Richters ethereal adaptation of Vivaldi's Four
Seasons, inspired Dawson to create a great athletic work.
