What does it mean to live wisely and well?
What does it mean to live wisely and well in the twenty-first century? And how should we go about doing it? These are the central questions Alain has been exploring in his career, both in his bestselling books and by establishing The School of Life. He has found the key ingredient to be emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence affects every aspect of the way we live, from romantic to professional relationships, from our inner resilience to our social success. It is arguably the single most important skill for surviving in the modern world. But how do we develop it? During this event Alain de Botton will point you the way and will share the lessons that have proved to be most fruitful.
About Alain de Botton
Alain de Botton is not only a famous writer and the founder of The School of Life, but he is also known to be one of the best speakers in the world. In his unique style -funny and deep, rigorous and humane- he manages to confront us with the strange things we do as human beings. He makes us laugh at ourselves and then continues to show us solutions.
In 1993 Alain de Botton debuted with his book Essays on Love. It immediately sold millions of copies and was made into a film in 2009 by Julian Kemp. He has now published more than 15 books, including The Consolations of Philosophy, Status Anxiety, The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work and Religion for Atheists. In 2008 he established The School of Life in London. He is still director of this organisation which now has branches all over the world, including in Seoul, Sao Paulo, Sydney and, of course, Amsterdam and is also famous for its YouTube Channel. In 2019 Penguin will publish his latest book: The School of Life; An Emotional Education.
