Conductor

Matthew Rowe is an exceptionally versatile conductor with a wide repertoire. Rowe made his debut with Dutch National Ballet in 2004 and held the double position of musical director of Dutch National Ballet and principal conductor of the Ballet Orchestra from 2013 to August 2024. He has since become a permanent guest conductor with Dutch National Ballet.

At Dutch National Ballet, Rowe has conducted a large number of productions, including Christopher Wheeldon's Cinderella, Alexei Ratmansky's Firebird and the world premieres of Shen Wei's Sacre du printemps, Ted Brandsen's Mata Hari, David Dawson's Requiem and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's Frida. His repertoire also includes numerous works by Hans van Manen, George Balanchine and Krzysztof Pastor, in addition to full-length classics such as Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. Furthermore, Rowe often performed with Nederlands Dans Theater, where he worked with choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, León|Lightfoot and Crystal Pite. He is also a regular guest conductor with several international companies, including San Francisco Ballet, Stuttgarter Ballett, Birmingham Royal Ballet, the National Ballet of Finland, the National Ballet of Poland and the Royal Ballet of Denmark.
