Michaela DePrince ambassador for War Child

Michaela DePrince, coryphée with Dutch National Ballet, will join singer Marco Borsato, presenter Jetske van der Elsen, singer Laura van Kaam and singer Guus Meeuwis as an ambassador for War Child. In the coming years, War Child aims to help even more children in the twelve countries where the organisation operates.

The 21-year-old dancer grew up as an orphan during the civil war in Sierra Leone. She was adopted at the age of four by the DePrince couple in America, where she set out on her promising ballet career. Michaela wants to be a role model for dark-skinned dancers, and in the future would like to open a dance school in Sierra Leone.

DePrince: 'My goal is to be able to help as many war children as possible, all over the world. I know from my own experience what war can do to a child. I want to show them that they are not alone. I’ve been fortunate in having many opportunities in my life. That’s why I now want to help others, by giving something back’.
