Krzysztof Warlikowski

During his studies, he assisted Giorgio Strehler, Ingmar Bergman en Peter Brook. Since then, he has won many awards all over the world for his staging of works by writers ranging from Shakespeare and Sophocles to Kafka and Kushner. As far as opera is concerned, he made his international debut at the Palais Garnier Paris in 2006 with Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride. His opera productions include The Makropoulos Affair, Parsifal, King Roger and the double bill Bluebeard’s Castle/La Voix humaine (Opéra National de Paris), Eugene Onegin and Die Frau ohne Schatten (Bayerische Staatsoper Munich), Médée, Macbeth, Lulu and Don Giovanni (De Munt Brussels), Il Trionfo del tempo e del disinganno (Festival d'art lyrique d’Aix-en-Provence, tour of France). Future productions include a new production of Die Gezeichneten and a revival of Die Frau ohne Schatten (Munich Opera Festival 2017), and a new production of Pelléas et Melisande (Ruhrtriennale 2017 - Jahrhunderthalle Bochum). In 2017- 2018, he will direct a new production of Don Carlo, a revival of Bluebeard’s Castle / La Voix humaine (Opéra national de Paris) and From the House of the Dead (Covent Garden London). Warlikowski is the artistic director of the Nowy Teatr in Warsaw.
