A safe visit to Dutch National Opera & Ballet

Dutch National Opera & Ballet is open again! Your safety comes first. We have taken several measures that are necessary in order to make your visit to our theater as pleasant and safe as possible. What do you need to know?

Our colleague Lianne guides you through the theater and explains the guidelines for visiting one of our performances.

Mouth masks

The City of Amsterdam strongly advises the wearing of mouth masks in indoor areas as well. Dutch National Opera & Ballet follows this advice. Wearing a mouth shield is compulsory during a performance visit to our theatre. Once in your seat, you may remove your mouth mask.

Enough space, safe distance

In the box office area, the entire foyer and the auditorium, we will make sure you have enough space. You can be assured that you will be able to keep 1,5 meters distance from other guests. We will make sure you can keep 1,5 meters distance in the auditorium as well. There will be a minimum of 3 seats between you and the following guest.

Please note: do you have 2 or more cards in your order? Then we assume that you are sitting next to each other as a group (max. 4 !). In that case, we will not be able to keep any seats available between you and your fellow visitors. Would you like to sit alone? Please contact kbb@operaballet.nl.

Regulated entrance

When you enter the theater, we will ask you to disinfect your hands. Your ticket (either printed or on your phone) will be scanned from a safe distance.

Health check and guidance

There are several theater employees present, who will guide you (as well as your fellow visitors). An employee will go through the health check with you and instruct you on routing and seating. We will make sure other visitors don't have to cross you to get to their seats after you have sat down. You can take your coats and/or bags with you to the foyer and the auditorium. The cloackroom will be closed.

Ventilation

The ventilation in the Dutch National Opera & Ballet consists of 'Circulation', as advised by the REHVA (Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations). This means that the incoming air throughout the building is 100% outside air. No air is reused (recirculation). Our inflow capacity, the amount of fresh air blown in, came out of the tests as more than sufficient. The good ventilation does also mean that it feels a bit colder than normal. Please take this into account when choosing your clothing.

Clean sanitary facilities and furniture

We will make sure that we can welcome you in a clean environment. Before every performance, we clean the foyer, auditorium and bars very thoroughly. Door knobs, handrails, tables, toilets and other surfaces are cleaned extra often.

Paying safely

In our theater, we handle a pin only policy, so we will be able to serve you faster and saver. At the bar, the store and the ticket office, you can pay contactless.

Maximum amount of visitors: 250

Dutch National Opera & Ballet has received an exemption from the City of Amsterdam as to the maximum allowed amount of visitors. We can now receive 250 visitors per activity. This measure from the municipality will remain in force until 19 October. No more than 4 tickets per person will be sold.

Arrive on time!

After the start of the performance we will close the doors. After that you will not be able any more to enter the performance. We therefore ask you to be present at the main entrance at least 30 minutes before the start of the performance and to enter at 1.5 meters distance from your predecessor(s). You are always welcome to arrive earlier. The main entrance is opened 60 minutes before the start of the performance. Keep in mind that you are not allowed to leave the auditorium during the performance. We wish you a great time at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet!

Ticket sales per rank and unplaced

You will be able to sell tickets for one of the three ranks. Selecting a part of the auditorium or specific seats is not possible. When you arrive at the theater, you will be able to change your tickets for an admission ticket with a specific part of the auditorium and an entrance door on it. This enables us to fill the auditorium in a way that is as efficient and safe as possible.

What does Dutch National Opera & Ballet do to provide enough ventilation?

In the entire building (both front and rear) we have ventilation systems that extract air and suck in outside air.

  • The amount of freshly blown air, also called the inflow capacity, is more than sufficient.
