Andrés Orozco Estrada
The Colombian-Austrian conductor Andrés Orozco Estrada studied conducting and violin at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, and continued his studies at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. In 2004 he made his debut with the Tonkünstler Orchester Wien as a last-minute substitute, after which he became their assistant conductor. From 2009 to 2015 he was chief conductor there. From 2014 to 2021 he was chief conductor of the HR-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt and from 2014 to 2022 he was chief conductor of the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Since this season he has been chief conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai in Milan. He is also chief conductor of the Filarmónica Joven de Colombia and will be appointed Generalmusikdirektor of the city of Cologne in 2025, putting him in charge of the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln and Oper Köln. He also works as a guest conductor with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Radio Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He also worked as a conductor at, amongst others, Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Wiener Staatsoper.
