Jannelieke Schmidt
Soprano Jannelieke Schmidt wanted to study Chemistry, but the stage kept intriguing her and so she began her studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. She obtained her first bachelor's degree at the Music Education Department and then another bachelor and master's degree in Classical singing. Her teachers were Lenie van den Heuvel, Sasja Hunnego and Nadine Secunde. She is currently developing her young-dramatic voice under the guidance of Frank van Aken, Eva Maria Westbroek and Maurits Draaijer.
Jannelieke is known for her attractive opera interpretations and has already sung several roles with various companies. Among others, she performed Amelia in Un ballo in maschera with Opera Zuid, Mími in the pocket version of La bohème with the Nationale Reisopera, Ivana in the world premiere of All Rise, a new opera by Jan Peter de Graaff, and La Contessa di Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro with BOOM. In addition, she performed arias from Tristan und Isolde and Macbeth in a production for Opera2day. For Opéra Mosset, she sang Hélène in La belle Hélène, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Dido in Dido and Aeneas. Jannelieke also performed as a soloist in various opera concerts, working with the Residentie Orkest, The Hague Brass and Noord Nederlands Orkest, among others.
Offering opera at the highest possible level, appropriately for new audiences, is what Jannelieke has been working on for years with great enthusiasm. She has been with Dutch National Opera & Ballet since 2012, where - besides her work in the Chorus - she is also a singer and teacher for the Education, Participation & Programming department. Jannelieke creates tailor-made music/theatre workshops and concerts for everyone. All this from her home base in The Hague where she lives with partner Wilco and cat Po-es.
