Galina Solovieva
Galina Solovieva, originally from St. Petersburg, graduated in 1975 as a costume and set designer from the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music, and Cinematography in Russia. From 1976 to 1991, she was a costume designer for the renowned Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. In 1992, she emigrated to the United States with her husband, set designer Simon Pastukh.
Solovieva has created over one hundred costume designs for ballet, opera, and theatre, including for the Bolshoi Ballet and Mikhailovsky Theatre in Russia, New York City Ballet, Universal Ballet in Seoul, and the National Ballet of Japan. In 2001 and 2008, Solovieva won the Golden Sofit, St. Petersburg’s highest theatre award.
For New York City Ballet, she previously designed costumes for Alexei Ratmansky’s Russian Seasons, and for American Ballet Theatre, she designed costumes for Ratmansky’s On the Dnieper and Firebird. These three works are now also part of the repertoire of the Dutch National Ballet.
