James Farncombe

Farncombe is a British lighting designer, whose previous opera work includes Jenůfa, Lessons in Love and Violence (Gran Teatre del Liceu, Dutch National Opera, Opéra de Lyon, Staatsoper Hamburg, Royal Opera House), Theodora (Royal Opera House), Lucia di Lammermoor (Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Opera), Le Vin Herbé (Berliner Staatsoper), Tristan und Isolde, Ariadne auf Naxos, Trauernacht (Festival d’Aix-en-Provence), La traviata (Opéra National de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Glyndebourne Festival), and Benjamin, dernière nuit (Opéra de Lyon). At Dutch Nationale Opera, his designs were featured in Trauernacht (2015), Lessons in Love and Violence (2018), Jenůfa (2018) and Der Zwerg (2021).

James Farncombe is also designing the lighting for the opera Innocence, which can be seen at Dutch National Opera from 7-22 October 2023.
