Online Programming of Dutch National Ballet
After the theater closed in March 2020, the programming of Dutch National Ballet also moved predominantly to the new online platform. The Dutch National Opera & Ballet Fund contributed a total of € 133,000 to the online programming of Dutch National Ballet. For example, various great ballet classics such as The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake were shown online, as well as new works such as Live by Hans van Manen and the two versions of Back to Ballet, ‘Classic’ and ‘Contemporary’. The year ended in style with a Christmas Gala that could be attended online.
The online ballet classes were also a great success with millions of views from all over the world. At the time of the closing of the theater, ballet lessons for the dancers took place via YouTube. The lessons were accessible to everyone at the same time. This meant that the public could also follow a ballet lesson from Dutch National Ballet from home.
