Barbora Horáková Joly

The director Barbora Horáková Joly studied singing at the Basel Academy of Music and the Geneva Conservatory of Music, and directing at the Bavarian Theatre Academy in Munich. She has rapidly grown to become one of the most interesting opera directors of her generation, with productions for companies including the Vienna State Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, the National Theatre in Prague and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. She made her DNO debut in 2021 with Joseph Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli.
Her rapid success was underlined by two prestigious nominations. She was a finalist at the Ring Award Graz in 2017, and she was honored as the "Newcomer of the Year" by the International OPERA Awards in London 2018.
