Bas Gaakeer

Bas Gaakeer (1989) is a guitarist, composer and musical director based in Amsterdam. As a musician, he mainly works in the intercultural scene with a strong focus on music from North Africa, the Sahara and the Arab world. As a musical director, Gaakeer is regularly involved in interdisciplinary ventures. For instance, he wrote the music and performed in various productions by the Sine Forma collective in Cairo in collaboration with local artists. He also regularly works as a guitarist and musical leader for the Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest. Since 2018, he has worked with Gregory Caers on various performances for the Opera Forward Festival, as a composer and arranger, a guitarist and musical director. Gaakeer teaches at the Amsterdam Conservatoire.
