Bas Gaakeer

Bas Gaakeer (1989) is a guitarist, composer and musical director based in Amsterdam. As a musician, he works mainly within the intercultural circuit, with a strong focus on music from North Africa, the Sahara and the Arab world. In these places, he performs as a guitarist and collaborates with local musicians.  As a musical director, Gaakeer regularly works in interdisciplinary contexts. For instance, he wrote music for and performed in several productions in Cairo, in collaboration with local artists and a Dutch choreographer. Starting in 2018, he has been collaborating with Gregory Caers on several performances at the Opera Forward Festival as composer/arranger, guitarist and musical director. Bas is a lecturer at the Amsterdam Conservatoire.
