Mezzo-soprano Klarijn Verkaart grew up immersed in music, joining a youth chorus in Limburg under the direction of Frans Voncken at a young age. After earning a degree in Dutch Language and Literature from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, she pursued classical vocal studies with Sasja Hunnego at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. She has participated in master classes with renowned artists such as Jard van Nes, Nelly Miricioiu, Roberta Alexander, Albert Bonnema, Malcolm Martineau, and Gemma Visser. She is coached by Peter Nilsson.

As a soloist, Klarijn has performed in a wide range of works, including Bach cantatas, masses by Schubert, Haydn, Mozart, Rossini, Palmeri, Heinichen, Bruckner, Jenkins, and Vivaldi, as well as oratorios by Wylie, Mendelssohn, and Saint-Saƫns. Her operatic repertoire includes roles in works by Stravinsky, Poulenc, and Strauss. She has collaborated with esteemed conductors such as Etienne Siebens, Kenneth Montgomery, Lucas Vis, and Henrik Schaefer.

Klarijn has sung with various professional choruses and ensembles and regularly performs with the Netherlands Radio Choir (Groot Omroepkoor). Alongside singers Yvonne Kok and Bauwien van der Meer and accordionist Ellen Zijm, she creates engaging performances for children and families. Since 2014, Klarijn has worked with the Chorus of Dutch National Opera as a freelancer and, in 2022, was awarded a permanent position.
