Melanie Greve

Melanie Greve was born and raised in Amsterdam, where she also studied singing at the Conservatory of Music. Initially, early music and oratorio were her passion. She sang in the Amsterdam Baroque Choir under the direction of Ton Koopman for a couple of years and initially sang a lot of solo parts in the oratorio circuit, with Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion among her favourites. One of her other highlights was singing the role of Catharina in Louis Andriessen's Writing to Vermeer with the National Youth Orchestra.

Later on, she started working more and more as a freelancer with the Chorus of Dutch National Opera and also became increasingly inspired by opera. At the age of forty she got a permanent position with the Chorus. Since then she has sung a number of solo roles with DNO, including one of the Flower Girls in  Parsifal, Bridesmaid in Le nozze di Figaro and Nymph in Ercole amante by Cavalli. Her heart still beats faster when a baroque opera like Ercole amante is performed at DNO, which happens regularly thanks to the extensive repertoire of this house.

In her spare time Melanie nowadays focuses on improvisation, vocal liberation and healing singing.
