Oleksandra Lenyshyn

Oleksandra Lenyshyn was born and educated in L'viv (Western Ukraine). At the end of her conservatory studies she won first prize in the Solomia Krusjelnitska Vocal Competition. After her graduation, she combined a position in the staff of her former conservatory with a freelance career as an oratorio and concert soloist. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Oleksandra travelled through Europe and Canada as a soloist with Ukrainian choirs, orchestras and ensembles.

Since 2001 Oleksandra has been part of the Chorus of Dutch National Opera. In 2003 she made her debut as soloist in the role of 'The Voice from Heaven' in The Maid of Orléans in the Saturday Matinee of the Concertgebouw. This was followed by other solo and ensemble roles, both with and outside of the Chorus of DNO. Furthermore, in 2014 Oleksandra put together a programme of songs by various composers to texts by Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861), the national poet of Ukraine. This concert programme was received with praise in Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels and Hanover.

Oleksandra is also founder and conductor of the choir of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Utrecht.
