Coen van der Hoeven
Coen van der Hoeven started his career in 1984 as a theatre technician at the Odeon Theatre in Amsterdam. When, after many projects, he met Reinier Tweebeeke in 1991, he became his assistant. He worked on major projects such as West Side Story, Joe de musical and Wilhelmina. After several years working as an assistant lighting designer and stage manager at Het Nationale Toneel, he started working as a lighting designer himself. He made his debut with Toneelgroep Amsterdam’s production Heracles. He is now an established name in the Netherlands. Besides lighting and spatial designs for theatre productions and museums, he also designs visual concepts for stadium shows and video content, and he teaches. For his lighting designs, Van der Hoeven got awarded the John Kraaijkamp Musical Award three times.
