Elke Schepers (1965) studied at the Scapino Dansacademie in Amsterdam under renowned instructors including Anne Marie Tannenbaum, Ivan Kramar, and Benjamin Harkarvy. She began her dance career in 1985 with Nederlands Dans Theater 2 and won the Incentive Award from Dansersfonds ’79, presented by Alexandra Radius and Han Ebbelaar, in the same year.

In 1987, Schepers moved up to Nederlands Dans Theater 1, where she quickly became one of the muses of artistic director Jiří Kylián. During her sixteen years with the company, she collaborated not only with Kylián but also with renowned choreographers such as Hans van Manen, William Forsythe, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek, and Johan Inger. In 1997, she received the Silver Theater Dance Award for her portrayal of the lead role in A Sort Of by Mats Ek.

Today, Schepers stages works by Jiří Kylián with companies around the world. She also works as a yoga instructor and participates in small-scale dance projects.
