Floris Visser
Floris Visser (director) trained as a director and actor at the Theatre Academy of Maastricht. Later he also studied classical singing at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He is one of today’s most sought-after directors, working with opera houses like Opernhaus Zürich, Bolshoi Opera, Dutch National Opera and Staatsoper Hannover. His production of Orphée et Eurydice for the Nederlandse Reisopera was voted Opera of the Year 2015 by Operamagazine. In 2013, Floris Visser was appointed artistic director of the opera company Opera Trionfo. Recently, he launched 'Sign of the Times', a series of newly composed operas in co-production with Dutch National Opera and the world-famous Asko | Schönberg Ensemble. The first production in the series, Fortress Europe, was composed by Calliope Tsoupaki and premiered at the Opera Forward Festival in 2017. In February 2017, Floris was directing Semele for the opening performance of the Händel-Festspiele in Karlsruhe, and the Nederlandse Reisopera opened in September that same year with a new La Traviata directed by Floris Visser.
