Gable Roelofsen
Gable Roelofsen is an actor, singer, director, writer and (music) theatre producer of Dutch-Indonesian descent. He studied at the Toneelacademie Maastricht, the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab in New York, and completed a postgraduate in innovation of opera. He worked with theatre companies such as Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Orkater and La Mamma international. In the field of opera, he sang the role of Toby in Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd at the Nederlandse Reisopera and the lead role of Sjarikmans the dog in the children's opera Hondenhartje at Dutch National Opera. Together with his sister Romy, he founded the music theatre platform Het Geluid Maastricht in 2007, where he writes, directs and performs. Het Geluid co-produced with companies such as Veenfabriek, Muziektheater Transparant, Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, Musikteatertage Wien, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Neukolner Oper and Bergen Nasjionale Opera. He co-directed Bizet’s and Brooks's La tragédie de Carmen as well as Berlioz's Les Nuits d'été at the Nederlandse Reisopera and directed productions of Schoenberg's Erwartung and Messiaen's Harawi at the Euregional Opera and Music Theatre Festival. Het Geluid developed innovative musical theatre around technology and social issues for the Nederlandse Reisopera, De Munt in Brussels and the Münchner Musik Biennale, among others, and they received both the Berliner Opernpreis and the Cultuurfonds inspiratieprijs for their work. Their VR opera Weltatem won three Dutch Game Awards.
