Greta Goiris studied costume design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and scenography at the Institute del Teatre in Barcelona. From 2001, she worked frequently with Johan Simons and designed the costumes for several of his theatre, music theatre and opera productions at, among others, the Ruhrtriennale and Salzburger Festspiele, at Burgtheater Wien, Schauspielhaus Bochum and the Münchner Kammerspiele. In 2005, with Die Zauberflöte, she began a long collaboration with director William Kentridge, with whom she subsequently collaborated on productions of Lulu – also presented at Dutch National Opera in 2015 – De Neus and Wozzeck, among others, as well as several of his video installations. She also worked with directors such as Pierre Audi and Ivo van Hove. Her work has been seen at opera houses such as The Metropolitan Opera New York, Bayerische Staatsoper, English National Opera, Opéra national de Paris and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
