Hélène Vrijdag

Hélène Vrijdag moves on the borderlands between theatre, music and textile art. Hélène works as a singer, performer, writer, composer and weaver; both as an autonomous artist and on commission. Her work centres on the voice, the ear and the myth. From a feminist point of view, she gives a new voice to the stilled (women's) voices from archetypal stories. Through her own (singing) voice, she experiments with finding the right tone and language for a story, a manifesto or a lament. She regularly collaborates with Timo Tembuyser and with Lieve Fikkers she forms WEEF, which combines textile, performance and myth to create installation art. She is also one of the co-founders of performance collective KISSIEKIE BANGBANG.
