Ivor Bolton

Following his debut in 1994, he developed a special bond with the Bayerische Staatsoper München. The English composer received the Bayerische Theaterpreis for his work in the Bavarian capital. In 1995, Bolton made his debut at ROH Covent Garden. At the Glyndebourne Opera Festival, he conducted Händel’s Saul, and at the Salzburger Festspiele, he conducted Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, three Mozart operas, Haydn’s Armida and Händel’s Theodora. Since 2015, Ivor Bolton has been musical director of the Teatro Real in Madrid, and from the beginning of 2016 he has fulfilled the same role with the Sinfonieorchester Basel. From 2004 to 2016, he was principal conductor of the Mozarteumorchester in Salzburg. He is a regular guest with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the opera houses of Paris, Hamburg, Brussels, Geneva, Dresden and Leipzig. He has conducted A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Brussels), Peter Grimes (Dresden), Albert Herring, The Turn of the Screw (Salzburg) and Owen Wingrave (Glyndebourne). He has worked on well-known productions that include Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Mitridate (Munich), Iolanta, Le rossignol (Salzburg) and Medea in Corinto (Munich). Outside Europe, he has guested in San Francisco, Sydney and Buenos Aires. Ivor Bolton received glowing reviews for his recordings of the symphonies of Anton Bruckner.

Highlights of the 2017/18 season include, next to The Rake’s Progress, the new productions of Mozart's Lucio Silla and Britten’s Gloriana at the Teatro Real in Madrid, a tour through the UK with the Symphony Orchestra Basel, as well as a return to Munich with Mozart’s Entführung aus dem Serail and Joseph Haydn’s Orlando Paladino. Moreover he will conduct subscription concerts with the Symphony Orchestra Basel, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg and the Dresden Festival Orchestra.
