Jodie Gates
Jodie Gates is an American dancer, choreographer, and arts educator. She danced as a principal dancer with Joffrey Ballet in New York, Pennsylvania Ballet, Ballett Frankfurt, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet, collaborating with many renowned choreographers. She also frequently performed as a guest soloist.
Since retiring from her dance career, Gates has built a comprehensive career in the dance field. As a choreographer, she has created works for companies such as Staatsballett Berlin, American Ballet Theatre, Ballet West, and The Washington Ballet. She is also the founder and artistic director of the Laguna Dance Festival in California. Additionally, she is a professor of dance at the University of California, Irvine, and was the founder, former director, and associate dean of the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. Between 2022 and 2023, she served as the artistic director of Cincinnati Ballet.
Gates regularly works with William Forsythe, staging his ballets with companies across Europe and the United States, including Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris, San Francisco Ballet, Houston Ballet, Balletto del Teatro alla Scala, and Zürich Ballet.
