Dutch National Ballet on tour to the United States
This summer, Dutch National Ballet is going on tour to the United States. The tour begins with the festival Ballet Sun Valley in Idaho, following which the company will travel on to the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts. The final stop is the Los Angeles Music Center in California. The dancers of the Junior Company are also going on tour this summer; they will travel to Indonesia.
The American tour opens on 1 July with the dance festival Ballet Sun Valley, which brings together the best companies each year. Dutch National Ballet will be dancing two programmes at the festival. The first is a tribute to the Dutch master choreographer Hans van Manen, showing his ballets Frank Bridge Variations, Solo, Trois gnossiennes and 5 Tangos. The second, on 2 July, presents six works to show the breadth of Dutch National Ballet’s repertoire, which is characterised by a mix of famous ballet classics, works by contemporary icons and collaborations with emerging choreographic talent. The programme closes with William Forsythe’s The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude, which the company is also performing this month in the programme Forsythe.
After Ballet Sun Valley, Dutch National Ballet is taking part in the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts. From 5 to 9 July, the company will give five performances of a programme comprising the ballets Variations for two couples (Hans van Manen), Two and Only (Wubkje Kuindersma), The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude (William Forsythe), Grand Pas Classique (Victor Gsovsky) and 5 Tangos (Hans van Manen).
Finally, the company will travel on to the Los Angeles Music Center in California, for three performances of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Frida on 14, 15 and 16 July. The performances will be given in the center’s largest theatre, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, which seats nearly 3200 people.
Junior Company tour to Indonesia
Besides Dutch National Ballet, the Junior Company will also be going on a foreign tour this summer. The young dancers will spend two weeks in Indonesia, where they will tour several theatres, performing a programme comprising five works: the Pas de Quatre from The Sleeping Beauty, Promise (Sedrig Verwoert), Blink (Juanjo Arqués), Nosotros (Wubkje Kuindersma) and Remembrance (Joshua Junker). These works were performed by the Junior Company earlier this season, in their touring programme for the Netherlands: Ballet Bubbles.
