Farewell to principal dancers Jozef Varga and Remi Wörtmeyer

29 June 2022

Tonight, principal dancers Jozef Varga and Remi Wörtmeyer will officially take their leave of the dance stage. The dancers have already been honoured with a farewell after their last performances during the Hans van Manen Festival. Tonight, they will be seen on stage for the last time during the Gala 60 years Dutch National Ballet. Jozef will dance Hans van Manen’s Variations for two couples, and Remi will take his leave with his own solo Joel. Remi will continue his path as an independent choreographer and will be involved in other artistic projects. Jozef will remain connected to our company, albeit in another way: he will continue his career with Dutch National Ballet as a ballet master.

Dutch National Ballet’s director Ted Brandsen called Jozef “one of the most dedicated and inspiring dancers with whom I’ve worked. He has made an enormous contribution during the last 15 years at Dutch National Ballet for which I’m most grateful. We are going to miss him on stage but I’m so happy that he will stay with us as ballet master.”

About Remi, he says: “Remi’s positive energy, fabulous technique and engaging personality onstage and off have made him one of the most beloved dancers in our company. I will miss Remi and his dancing enormously and I wish him lots of success with his new artistic adventures.”
