Fifth edition of dance week for young people with down syndrome at Dutch National Opera & Ballet
From Monday 19 to Saturday 24 August 2024, Dutch National Ballet, in collaboration with United Dance, will host the fifth edition of their Dance Week for young people with Down syndrome.
During these six days, participants will take part in daily one-hour workshops in the safe environment of the dance studios at Dutch National Opera & Ballet. The week will culminate in a festive open workshop, where the results of the dance classes will be showcased to family and friends.
For those looking to further enhance their experience, there is an option to join an additional choreography workshop. In this workshop, participants will work towards a presentation on Saturday and have the opportunity to create their own dance, all set to live music and guided by professional dancers.
About United Dance
United Dance was founded in 2018 by professional dancer Boris Richir, with core values of inclusion, respect, and excellence. Richir worked closely with the Boston Ballet Adaptive Dance programme, which originated in 2002 from a collaboration between Boston Ballet and Boston Children's Hospital. This experience ignited his passion for sharing his art with individuals who can benefit the most on an artistic, physical, and psychological level.
United Dance has developed an international curriculum to provide high-quality dance education in a safe and accessible environment. The team comprises renowned professionals, including ballet dancers, musicians, and physiotherapists, all trained in inclusive dance. In 2022, United Dance Company was established with a focus on family-friendly productions and providing a platform for dancers of all backgrounds to share their artistic talents.
