Remi Wörtmeyer appointed as Artistic Director of BalletMet
Remi Wörtmeyer, former principal dancer of Dutch National Ballet, has been announced as the new artistic director of BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio (United States). Renowned for its versatility and innovative repertory, BalletMet ranks among the largest ballet companies in the United States.
The Australian-born Wörtmeyer danced with Dutch National Ballet from 2010 to 2022. In addition to being a dancer, Wörtmeyer also developed himself as a choreographer, fashion designer and sculptor. During the upcoming Dutch National Ballet Gala on June 28, one of his latest choreographies will be danced entitled Future's Tense, performed by principals Qian Liu and Semyon Velichko.
Remi will start at BalletMet after the summer and will replace the company’s current Artistic Director Edwaard Liang, who has held the position for the last 11 years.
“I am honored to join this incredibly capable and innovative company. The dancers, staff, and board have already been so warm and welcoming to me and my vision for further expanding our beloved art form both within and beyond Central Ohio. I'm looking forward to settling into my new home in Columbus and working hard to offer spectacular, unforgettable performances and experiences to the community,” said Wörtmeyer.
