Joris van Baar
Bass-baritone
Bass-baritone Joris van Baar is lauded for his interpretations of a wide repertoire, spanning from early music to 21st century compositions. His Christ (Matthäus-Passion) was described by Dutch newspaper Dagblad van het Noorden as “vulnerability incarnate”. He recently made his role debut as Hobson (Peter Grimes) and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro). Other roles he has sung are Aeneas (Dido & Aeneas), Lorenzo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) and Publio (La clemenza di Tito). At Holland Opera, he was part of the open-air spectacle King Lear and Divorce of Figaro. He obtained his master’s degree with distinction at the Amsterdam Conservatoire in 2012.
