Willem Bruls
Author and dramaturge Willem Bruls wrote books on Wagner, Orientalism, and on Venice. His book Venetian Songs was also published in Germany in 2021, under the title Venedig und die Oper. Last September, his latest book Een zucht van Aleppo was published. Bruls also writes libretti, such as Alp Arslan for composer Richard van Schoor, and Een lied voor de maan and Dear Professor Einstein for Mathilde Wantenaar. In addition, Bruls has written numerous texts and adaptations for dance and theatre performances. His adaptation for Ruhrtriennale/ITA of Teorema (Ivo van Hove) was selected for the Lincoln Center Festival in New York. As a production dramaturge, he has worked with Ramsey Nasr, Guy Cassiers, Ola Mafaalani, Pierre Audi and Zack Winokur. Bruls also gives workshops on contemporary music theatre, libretto writing, youth opera and cultural journalism in Barcelona, Hobart, Stavanger, Ghent, Brussels and Aix-en-Provence.
