Yaron Abulafia
Yaron Abulafia is a visual artist, researcher and lighting and set designer. Yaron holds a BA in Theatre Studies from Tel Aviv University in Israel, a Master’s degree (MFA Scenography) from The Frank Mohr Instituut in Groningen and a PhD from the department of Arts, Culture and Media at The State University of Groningen. Over the past twenty years, he has designed the lighting for more than 250 installations, concerts and TV shows. In his work, he explores the aesthetic and narrative role that light can play in contemporary performance.
Abulafia has worked with opera houses and dance companies all over the world, including the Deutsche Oper, Royal Opera House, Compañía Nacional de Danza, Shanghai Dance Theatre and Nederlands Dans Theater. He is the recipient of several awards, including the World Stage Design 2022 Award in the category ‘Best Performance Design’, the CEZ Prize for lighting design from Philips and special Grants for Excellency from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.
