Choreographer and director Sasha Waltz awarded with Deutscher Tanzpreis 2024
Wednesday 24 April 2024 it was announced that choreographer and director Sasha Waltz receives the prestigious Deutscher Tanzpreis 2024, which is awarded annually to honor outstanding dance personalities in Germany.
At Dutch National Opera & Ballet, Monteverdi's opera Orfeo under the direction of Waltz was previously seen at the Dutch National Opera in 2014 and Roméo and Juliette, her joint production for Dutch National Opera & Dutch Ballet, in 2016. In June 2025, Dutch National Ballet will perform Sasha Waltz's work In C, a choreography that also serves as the basis for the Heel Amsterdam Danst project in celebration of the 750th anniversary of the city of Amsterdam.
The jury awards Sasha “for her international appeal, her commitment to the independent dance scene structures and, above all, for her artistically unique and disciplinary-bursting oeuvre. (…) To this day, she has continued to develop her distinctive choreographic signature and aesthetic vision. Sasha Waltz is undisputedly one of Germany’s most renowned dance artists, both nationally and internationally.”
