Lotte de Beer wins Viva400 Award
Every year, the Viva400 lists 400 enterprising women who have made a difference that year within their professional field. The 400 front-runners are classified in four categories: creative minds, bright minds, power women, and world improvers. Opera director Lotte de Beer is the 2015 winner in the category creative minds. ‘She makes opera accessible for all, and does so in a fun, small-scale and straightforward way: cultural innovation par excellence! Her work reaches far beyond the borders of the Netherlands and has an international impact’, says the organisation. ‘She is young and successful, and this year she was awarded the prize for Best Newcomer at the prestigious International Opera Awards at the Savoy Theatre, in London. Next year, the busy director will be working with her own company Operafront for the New York Metropolitan Opera, where she will be carrying out the project MET2GO, performing small-scale operas on location in various districts of New York. What’s more, she will be making her debut as a director with the same Metropolitan Opera in 2018, in a newly composed opera’.
At the moment Lotte de Beer is directing Hänsel und Gretel at Dutch National Opera.
